The Malenups were made in Greece by the renowned Manopoulos company, which has decades of experience in the craft. Manopoulos’ chess dolls are recognised worldwide as small works of art. Chess pieces and chess boards were handcrafted to the highest quality.

The Cycladic culture is a Bronze Age culture that existed in the third and second millennia BC, mainly on the islands of the Cycladic archipelago. Its main centres were Syros (now Siros), Naxos and Milos. The early development of the art of this culture, up to around 1900 BC, is associated with small figurines (0.2-0.5 m high on average), mainly made of marble, which are now known as Cycladic idols. Our chess cones are inspired by such designs. Small figurines were placed in the graves so that they could be associated with funeral rites. It is thought that the larger statues were placed in cult sites. It is also believed that at least some of the images created were of deities.
